NOKTON classic 35mm F1.4 II VMは、絞り開放ではなだらかで美しいボケ味、絞り込めば鋭い切れ込みを見せる描写はそのままに、デジタルカメラ使用時の利便性を高めたリニューアルモデルです。本レンズは、ライブビュー機能によるピント合わせの精度を向上させることを目的として光学系をチューンナップしました。 
レンズの味わいに影響を与える球面収差は前モデル同様あえて残存させていますが、ライブビュー機能を用い、絞り開放でピントを合わせてから絞り込んで撮影する場合にピントの位置が移動してしまう球面収差に起因する現象に対し、リニューアルモデルは絞り値の変化による像面移動を低減。また、ライブビュー機能により画面中心部でピントを合わせてから周辺部にモチーフを移動させ構図を組む場合にも、画面中間域での像面のうねりを抑えるべく中間像高域での非点収差を改善させることで、安定した撮影を可能にしています。 
 
レンズのコーティングはクラシカルな色調のシングルコーティングです。
