８人の僧侶が手掛けるハンドメイドの修道院サンダル
Saint-Marie de le Gardeは、トゥールーズにほど近いAgenの町にひっそりと佇む修道院です。16世紀に建てられた古い城塞に8人の僧侶が布教の為たどり着いたのは、2002年11月21の日でした。
8人の僧侶は日々の布教活動に携わる傍ら、自らの利用する生活基盤形成の為、いくつかの仕事を始めます。クルミ果樹園、養蜂場、レザーサンダル工房…これらの活動は彼らの日常の消費物を補う物であり、同時にこれらを販売する事は彼らの生活を支えていく上で大変に貴重な収入源となりました。
レザーサンダルの生産に際しては、フランスでも長い歴史を持つレザーファクトリーから指導を受け、伝統のモンクサンダルを再現しています。すべてのサンダルは修道士たちの手によって伝統的な方法で作られています。
